Police in Reus have detained a 27-year-old man suspected of carrying out two violent robberies targeting elderly women within two days. The regional police force, Mossos d'Esquadra, made the arrest on Monday following reports of chain snatchings that left both victims with minor injuries from the force of the thefts.
The first incident occurred on the morning of 10 August on Carrer de Navarra in the Baix Camp capital. Officers launched an investigation after the victim filed a report, which led them to identify the suspect. Investigators also traced the stolen jewellery, which had been sold at a local gold-buying shop in Reus. The items were recovered and returned to the rightful owner.
Further inquiry linked the same man to another violent robbery on 8 August along Camí de l'Aleixar. In both cases, the suspect is accused of snatching gold chains from older women, causing minor physical injuries during the acts. He faces two charges of robbery with violence and intimidation, as well as two counts of minor injury.
Judicial Appearance and Ongoing Investigation
The suspect appeared before the on-duty investigative court at Reus on Tuesday. The case was built through forensic and surveillance follow-up, with evidence connecting him to both crimes. Authorities confirmed that the stolen jewellery was recovered thanks to cooperation with the local pawn shop.
The modus operandi in both cases involved sudden, forceful thefts from elderly women, a pattern that raised immediate concern among local officers.
