A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a public-health offence during a joint police operation in Girona’s Germans Sàbat neighbourhood on the afternoon of 26 August. For residents, the operation targeted specific locations where police had recorded suspected criminal activity and where neighbours had made complaints, including reports of fights.

The operation involved 28 officers: 22 from the Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia’s regional police force, and six from Girona Municipal Police. The arrested man, who police said had previous records, was brought before the Girona investigating court on duty.

Police identify 12 people in targeted locations

The Kanpai operation began at 7pm and identified 12 people, who together had 21 police records. Police said some of those records concerned unlawful possession of firearms, assault and public-health offences.

  • One man was arrested on suspicion of an offence against public health, the legal category used for alleged drug-trafficking offences.
  • A second identified person was reported for driving after their licence had ceased to be valid because all penalty points had been lost.
  • The Mossos deployment included officers from the Girona police station, the Regional Operational Resources Area, known as ARRO, and the canine unit.

Kanpai is the name used for policing deployments that concentrate officers in locations identified by police as requiring targeted action. In Germans Sàbat, officers said they were checking places where there had been reports of fights and possible possession of prohibited weapons or trafficking in controlled substances.

Previous action on Alfred Nobel Street

Police have carried out operations in this part of Girona for several years. Between 2023 and 2025, they conducted several deployments under the Citizen Security Protection Law, Spain’s legal framework for public-security policing.

One previous operation focused on a shop on Alfred Nobel Street, where police said they had detected drug trafficking. In earlier interventions there, officers seized cocaine, hashish, items linked to the activity and cash.
