A 20-year-old man was arrested in Lleida on Sunday morning, 3 May 2026, accused of sexual assault. The arrest by the Guàrdia Urbana followed a woman's report to the Salmerón street police station, where she claimed she had been forced by an individual and provided his identity, according to Segre.
Officers receiving the complaint started efforts to find the man. After contacting him, the young man went to the police station. Based on the complaint and evidence, he was arrested for sexual assault. The Lleida City Council, known as La Paeria, did not provide further details on the incident.
Sexual Offences in Lleida
Last year, the Lleida region recorded 291 sexual freedom offences, a 5.2% decrease from the 307 cases in 2024, according to the Ministry of Interior's Crime Balance. Of these, 106 occurred in Lleida city, the capital of Segrià, where the decrease was even higher at 17.2%, down from 128 cases in 2024. Among the 291 cases, 112 involved sexual assault with penetration.
Lleida courts issued 52 final sentences for sexual offences last year, the highest figure in four years. In 16 of these cases, both the perpetrators and victims were minors. Many of these trials took place at the Provincial Court, which saw an average of one such trial per week. In recent years, these cases have accounted for 60% of all hearings at that tribunal.
This arrest highlights ongoing efforts by local authorities to address sexual assault reports. The legal process for the arrested individual will now proceed through the courts, with further details expected as the investigation develops.
