A man was arrested after a car chase from Sant Boi de Llobregat to central Gavà at about 6pm on Monday 17 August. The vehicle reportedly travelled the wrong way along Carrer del Centre in Gavà, striking several parked vehicles and a young cyclist, causing alarm for residents and people travelling through the town centre.
No serious injuries were reported. The driver was arrested on suspicion of assaulting officers and dangerous driving, according to El Periódico, which cited sources in the Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's regional police.
Vehicle entered Carrer del Centre against traffic
The man fled by car from Sant Boi de Llobregat and drove into Gavà's urban centre at speed before colliding with parked vehicles on a central street, the report said.
He entered Carrer del Centre against the direction of traffic. Sources cited by the newspaper said the car also hit a young person riding a bicycle, who was not seriously injured.
After leaving the vehicle, the man “became very violent”, Mossos sources told El Periódico.
Officers restrained and arrested him, according to the report.
Drug test result pending
The driver tested negative in an alcohol breath test. Police were awaiting the result of a drug test, and the reason for the attempted escape had not been established, El Periódico reported.
Residents seeking an in-person police station can use the Mossos d'Esquadra's official station locator.
