In Madrid, a court has ordered the regional government to pay a couple an extra €89,608 after their home was demolished because of metro construction in San Fernando de Henares. The ruling came from the Administrative Chamber of the Superior Court of Justice of Madrid, which said the compensation already offered by the Ayuso government was not the “legal maximum” it had claimed.

The case is part of a wider dispute over damage caused when the metro altered the subsoil in San Fernando de Henares, near Madrid. According to the article, more than 70 homes were demolished after buildings were destabilised.

The couple will now receive a total of €362,051, according to La Sexta. The decision may open the way for dozens of other residents to seek higher compensation for losses linked to the same works.

Residents have described serious financial pressure. Nieves, whose house was among the first to be demolished in 2022, told La Sexta in November 2025: “We started with a tiny crack until you could put your whole hand in it.”

Ramón, another resident, said some families are still paying mortgages on homes that no longer exist. “There are people who are paying the mortgage on a home that no longer exists because the debt with the bank does not end,” he said.

The affected residents’ association has played a key role in pursuing the legal claims. For readers following related coverage, see our news tag for more updates.
