School directors in Lleida are asking the Catalan government for a formal executive and budgetary commitment by 19 June. They want urgent structural and maintenance changes in Catalonia’s public education system, backed by a dedicated budget.
The directors say the government should set up joint working groups to begin the work. Their document calls for a clear written commitment and the funding needed to carry out the changes.
They also argue for a stronger focus on effort and learning in schools. In their view, the system should limit the number of pedagogical innovation programmes and place more value on perseverance, self-improvement and enjoying learning.
Joan Martí Alegret, speaking for the directors, said the education system is in an “educational state of emergency”. The statement is part of their push for faster action on what they describe as urgent reforms.
The directors say the changes are needed to support students’ emotional well-being, self-esteem, comprehensive growth and educational success. They are now waiting for the government to formalise its commitment in writing, including the budget lines and working teams needed to start.
