In Lleida province, the run-up to the 23 May 2027 municipal elections is already under way, with most mayors in the region’s capital towns expected to stand again. The contest will also test whether the PSC can build on its position in the Generalitat, how the independence parties perform, and whether Aliança Catalana has any real impact on local councils.
In Lleida city, socialist Fèlix Larrosa is seeking a second term after defeating republican Miquel Pueyo in 2023. Larrosa also served as mayor for nine months in 2018, when he replaced Àngel Ros without an election.
Across the province, the People’s Party wants to build on its unexpectedly strong second place in the last vote, while Esquerra Republicana and Junts are putting forward new lead candidates. One open question is whether Aliança Catalana will gain enough support to change council arithmetic, or remain a minor force.
There are two clear exceptions to the pattern of continuity. In Tàrrega, Rosa Maria Perelló, who returned to the mayoralty in March through a no-confidence motion, will not stand again. In Mollerussa, Marc Solsona will also step aside after 16 years in office. Emili Gilabert is expected to replace Perelló as lead candidate, while Anna Carné is set to replace Solsona, both currently serving as deputies.
Elsewhere, PSC mayors Sílvia Romero in Tremp, Lorena González in Balaguer, Joan Barrera in La Seu d’Urgell and Jan Pomés in Cervera are all highly likely to run again. Juan Antonio Serrano of Unitat d’Aran (UA-PSC) in Vielha is also expected to seek re-election. For Esquerra Republicana, Judit Gisbert in Solsona and Baldó Farré in Sort are expected to do the same, while Iolanda Ferran in El Pont de Suert and Josep Farran in Les Borges Blanques may also repeat if their independent lists back them.
The final candidate lists will help shape the political map across Lleida province for the next four years. For more local political coverage, see our news page.
