Security extended at Parc de les Vías
Lleida’s mayor, Fèlix Larrosa, held a follow-up meeting today with senior officers from the Guardia Urbana and Mossos d'Esquadra to assess public safety operations across the city. The discussion focused on the continued deployment of joint patrols at the Parc de les Vías, which remains under enhanced surveillance despite no new incidents since the disturbances in mid-August. The coordinated security operation was launched after violent clashes involving groups of minors left four people injured and five detained on 16 August, as confirmed by the Ajuntament de Lleida. Since then, authorities have maintained a visible presence in the area, particularly around Balàfia, Clot and Pardinyes, to prevent further unrest and support ongoing investigations.
Investigation continues into August events
Although no additional incidents have occurred, both police forces are still working to identify all individuals involved in the original altercation. Mayor Larrosa reiterated his call for a thorough investigation, stating that those responsible must be held accountable, while also urging against stigmatising entire communities. He emphasised that “the crimes are committed by individuals, not by communities”, during an earlier statement issued by the city council. The Generalitat’s Interior Department, led by Minister Núria Parlon, is providing full support to local law enforcement, according to official communications from the Paeria.
Major festivals to see large-scale traffic and safety plans
Separately, authorities outlined the operational framework for two major upcoming events: the 17th edition of Obert del Centre Històric (18–20 September) and Festes de la Tardor (25–27 September). For Obert del Centre Històric, approximately 20 Guardia Urbana officers will be deployed. Traffic will be restricted in Plaça del Dipòsit, though access for residents will be preserved. Limited vehicle circulation will remain open via Carrer Murcia (exiting to Cavallers) and Carrer Sant Carles (towards Ronda de Sant Martí). Security checks will be conducted to prevent the carrying of bladed weapons. During Festes de la Tardor, the operation will expand to include 140 officers. Road closures will affect several central streets, including Carrer Sant Martí from Camp de Mart, Ronda de Sant Martí from Passatge Empordà, Jaume I el Conquistador, the stretch in front of Pista de la Panera, and Plaça del Dipòsit.
To ensure the safe running of the Gran Nit de Foc on Saturday 26 September along Rambla d’Aragó, vehicle access towards this street will be restricted.
