A Lleida court has ordered the provisional imprisonment of five people arrested earlier this week in a Mossos d'Esquadra operation against cannabis and weapons trafficking. The arrests occurred on Tuesday in Lleida and Seròs, a town in the Segrià region.
The investigating magistrate of Lleida's Court of Instruction, Section 3, ruled on Thursday that the five would be held without bail. The remaining six detainees have been granted provisional release but must report to the court every fortnight, according to the High Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC).
The ongoing investigation involves charges of public health offences, membership of a criminal organisation, illegal possession of weapons, and electricity fraud. Police conducted seven searches of properties and industrial warehouses in both municipalities on Tuesday, seizing weapons, cash, and a large quantity of ammunition.
Raids Across Lleida and Seròs
One key location for the police operation was the Mariola neighbourhood in Lleida, where three arrests were made. Officers discovered a cannabis plantation in a basement there, alongside the seizure of weapons. Four additional arrests were made in the Horta de Lleida area, according to Lleida City Council.
The operation highlights continued efforts by Catalan authorities to combat organised crime involved in drug production and illegal arms. Further court proceedings are expected as the investigation progresses.
