The Mossos d'Esquadra have dealt a blow to a criminal network involved in cannabis and arms trafficking, based in Lleida, with one individual arrested in Cambrils. The operation, carried out on 21 April, resulted in 12 arrests and the dismantling of three indoor plantations.
More than 1,300 cannabis plants were seized, along with various types of weapons and ammunition, according to police. The investigation, led by the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC), started in late 2025 after police found evidence of an organisation in Lleida managing cannabis cultivation and acting as an intermediary in the illegal arms market.
Hierarchical Structure Uncovered
The group operated with a clear hierarchy. Leaders made strategic decisions, such as choosing cultivation sites and production phases. Logistics managers handled financing and drug sales. At the lowest level were the 'gardeners', who maintained and guarded the plantations, many located on properties outside Lleida.
The police operation included six searches of properties and warehouses in Lleida and one in Seròs. Investigation units, Scientific Police, canine teams, and ARRO and BRIMO officers participated, with air support from the HÈLIX helicopter.
During the searches, officers found two warehouses with active crops at different growth stages and several additional plantations. One was hidden in a basement set up for intensive cultivation. All plantations had illegal connections to the electricity grid, adding a charge of electricity fraud.
Weapons and Cash Seized
The arsenal seized included 15 long and short weapons, mainly pneumatic, and a .22 calibre pistol. Parts of other weapons and a large amount of ammunition were also found. Some of the material has been sent for analysis due to its potential lethality. A Civil War grenade, without explosive charge, and €5,100 in cash were also discovered during one search.
Eight arrests were made during the searches, while the other four were carried out simultaneously in various locations, including Cambrils, Sabadell, and Vilanova i la Geltrú. The arrested individuals are aged between 25 and 73. Five of the 12 have been remanded in prison, with the rest released on charges.
The detainees face charges of belonging to a criminal group, public health offences, electricity fraud, and illegal possession and trafficking of weapons.
