Sant Adrià de Besòs will host the 36th La Mina Flamenco Singing Festival in July, bringing one of Catalonia’s longest-running flamenco events back to the La Mina neighbourhood. The festival is organised by the Centro Cultural Gitano, according to the official programme.
This year’s edition will pay tribute to Miguel Fernández Moreno, known artistically as Faraón. The programme says the tribute recognises his role in the history of flamenco and Gypsy cultural activism in the region.
The line-up includes Comando Reus, Dolores Agujetas, who brings the tradition of Jerez singing, and Pastora Galván, described in the programme as an acclaimed flamenco dancer. Local talent will also take part, with performances from the dance schools of the Centro Cultural Gitano.
The festival will take place on Saturday, 4 July, from 8pm at the MhiC, the Museu d’Història de la Immigració de Catalunya, on Carretera de Mataró, 124, in Sant Adrià de Besòs. Entry is free until the venue reaches capacity, keeping the event open to residents and flamenco fans.
Journalist and cultural commentator Joaquín López Bustamante will present the evening. Support comes from Sant Adrià de Besòs City Council, Barcelona City Council, the Barcelona Provincial Council, and several departments of the Catalan government. For more Catalonia-wide local coverage, see news.
