In Madrid, Junts spokesperson Míriam Nogueras called for snap Spanish elections on 29 May 2026, saying her party is not in the capital “to install and remove governments”. She made the comments in an interview with TVE.
Nogueras said it seemed “the history of Spain consists of corrupt governments coming and going, whether they are from the PP or the PSOE”. She also warned of “indications” that PSOE-linked corruption investigations by the Spanish National Court could extend to the Catalan government, the Generalitat.
Junts has repeatedly called for new elections. Nogueras said the party expects nothing more than for President Sánchez to call elections, and noted that Junts had already asked him to dissolve the Cortes more than a month ago.
The party’s position points to growing impatience with the current political situation in Madrid and could make future parliamentary alliances harder to maintain. For more Catalonia-wide political coverage, see our news page.
