Junts per Catalunya has confirmed its four lead candidates for the 29 November general election after no alternative pre-candidate lists were filed in Barcelona, Girona, Lleida or Tarragona, according to a report by El Món on the party's statement. For voters in those constituencies, the decision means Junts will again put forward the same four people who headed its 2023 lists for the Congress of Deputies, Spain's lower parliamentary chamber.
The automatic confirmation removes the need for an internal ballot that had been planned for 10 October.
Four constituency leads confirmed
- Barcelona: Míriam Nogueras
- Girona: Marta Madrenas
- Lleida: Isidre Gavín
- Tarragona: Josep Maria Cruset
The party said its rules required the candidates to be proclaimed automatically because only one pre-candidacy was registered in each constituency before the deadline.
“The process reflects internal unity and broad support for the work carried out in the Congress of Deputies,” Junts said in its statement.
Junts' 2023 electoral programme named Nogueras as its Barcelona lead candidate, alongside Cruset in Tarragona, Madrenas in Girona and Gavín in Lleida.
Full Congress and Senate lists due on 17 October
The selection process for the remaining places on Junts' Congress and Senate lists will continue. The party's national council is due to ratify the complete lists on 17 October.
