1,653 vehicles checked in Ebre region controls

On Wednesday 7 October 2026, the Mossos d'Esquadra carried out an intensified traffic enforcement operation on the AP-7 motorway between L'Ametlla de Mar and Amposta in the Ebre region. The operation, aimed at identifying risky driving behaviours, resulted in 36 drivers being fined after 1,653 vehicles were inspected. The regional police detected three positive drug tests and one positive alcohol test during the checks, which focused particularly on distractions and substance use behind the wheel.

Mobile phone use highlighted as key risk

Sergeant Mohedano, speaking on the operation, stressed that lack of attention is one of the main causes of road danger. Officers placed special emphasis on detecting mobile phone use while driving, a frequent violation observed on this stretch of the AP-7. In addition to substance-related offences, authorities issued 15 fines for improper overtaking, one for distraction while driving, four for documentation irregularities, and 11 for other violations, including multiple speeding incidents.

These intensive operations are conducted periodically and are scheduled based on officer availability and coordination between police units, rather than fixed dates, Mohedano noted.

Motorists reminded of ongoing enforcement

Drivers on the AP-7 are reminded that random safety and substance checks remain active across Catalonia’s major roadways. The operation aligns with broader efforts by the Mossos d'Esquadra to improve road safety and reduce accidents in high-traffic zones.
