Junts Will Not Back PP and Vox Government
Míriam Nogueras, spokesperson for Junts in the Spanish Congress, has categorically ruled out supporting a government led by the People's Party (PP) and Vox after the 29 November general election. In an interview with Catalunya Ràdio on Tuesday, she stated: "With our votes, PP and Vox will not govern. I couldn’t be more explicit." Nogueras, who confirmed she will stand as Junts’ lead candidate, described her party as politically independent, saying it does not belong to either of Spain’s two dominant blocs. She criticised Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez for calling the election in what she called an "electoralist key" and accused his government of being dragged toward extremes.
With our votes, PP and Vox will not govern. I couldn’t be more explicit.
She rejected claims that Junts was responsible for the early election, arguing that her group had become a scapegoat after opposing housing decrees. While acknowledging that blocking the measures was the "least comfortable" position, she said Junts would continue taking principled stances.
Nogueras to Lead Campaign Amid Puigdemont Speculation
Nogueras affirmed that Junts is a unified bloc focused solely on Catalonia’s interests. She also left open the possibility of former president Carles Puigdemont returning during the campaign period, though she stressed the party had never used his status for electoral gain. The Constitutional Court’s recent clearance of the amnesty law has removed legal barriers to Puigdemont’s return to Spain before the vote, according to reports from Infobae and other outlets. Nogueras criticised Sánchez’s plan to validate housing decrees through the Permanent Deputation, a parliamentary body that can act when Congress is dissolved. While acknowledging the move is legal, she urged the prime minister not to use it for party political advantage.
We are the ones in the middle, after both left and right have been dragged by the extremes.
She pointed out that it was the PSOE, not Junts, that had formed agreements with both PP and Vox during the current legislative term. Her central message ahead of 29 November is that centrist Catalan voices must be seen and heard.
