Barcelona police have arrested a 33-year-old Italian man in the city over a 2018 homicide in Naples linked to the Camorra. Mossos d'Esquadra said plainclothes officers detained him on 27 May in the Eixample district during a preventative check, after he showed what police described as a falsified document.

After the arrest, officers found that a European arrest warrant had been issued the following day. Police sources said the warrant referred to serious offences, including aggravated homicide.

According to Italian authorities, the man and two accomplices are accused of killing a member of a rival clan in a public street in Naples with a firearm. Investigators in Italy believe all three men are active members of the criminal group.

The man appeared before a judge on Saturday and was charged with homicide. Spanish justice officials will now decide whether he is extradited to Italy.
