Teachers and other education workers across Catalonia are continuing protests this week, with actions planned in Montserrat, Girona, Manresa and Barcelona. The mobilisations come as staff vote on a pre-agreement reached with the Education Department.

Major unions USTEC-STEs and Professors de Secundària have temporarily suspended territorial strikes while the vote takes place. However, CGT, Intersindical, COS and several educational assemblies are keeping their planned demonstrations in place.

On 1 June, the first day of mobilisations, a strike is taking place in the Girona and Central Catalonia regions. In Montserrat, participants are due to meet at 9am at the Monistrol Cremallera car park before walking up to the monastery. An educational assembly is scheduled at the top at 12pm.

In Girona, activities are also due to begin at 9am in front of the Territorial Education Services building in Plaça Pompeu Fabra, followed by an open educational assembly at 12pm. Later in the day, the protest will move to Manresa, where a demonstration is planned for 6pm outside the Territorial Education Services on Carretera de Vic.

On Tuesday, 2 June, the focus will shift to Barcelona and the Consorci d’Educació de Barcelona. The main event will be a protest bike ride starting at 7.45am from several points across the city, with a gathering at the same time in Plaça Urquinaona for people arriving on foot. The route will pass along Passeig de Gràcia and end in Plaça de Catalunya.

The actions are taking place during the consultation period on the pre-agreement with the Education Department. USTEC and Professors de Secundària have paused territorial strikes until the result is known, while other unions say pressure should continue in the streets and schools. A general strike called for Friday, 5 June, remains in place for now. For more Catalonia education coverage, see our news tag.
