Girona City Council has given initial approval to a plan to reorganise the Devesa street market, with the aim of reducing the number of stalls. The decision was taken during a plenary session on Monday afternoon, according to local officials.

The new rules will apply to stall authorisations at both the Devesa market and the Can Gibert del Pla market. Current authorisations will need to be extended until the new system is fully in place.

Officials said 46 existing stalls will not be eligible for the new authorisation process because their operators are not up to date with payments.

The move is part of the council’s wider plan to modernise and streamline Girona’s street markets. The reorganisation is expected to affect the layout and day-to-day operation of these trading spaces.

The next stage is to finalise the regulations and then launch the competition for new authorisations, which will तयermine the final number and distribution of stalls in the reorganised markets. For more local coverage, see our news tag.
