Girona’s winter emergency Cold Plan has ended its seventh edition after providing shelter to 119 people at the former UNED building. Officials said the service saw sustained occupancy because some users stayed for longer periods.

The plan offers a warm, safe space for people in vulnerable situations during the coldest months. Its closure marks the end of a period when many relied on the service for protection from the cold.

The 119 users recorded in this edition point to continued demand for emergency winter support in Girona, especially for people experiencing homelessness or unstable housing.

The Cold Plan is activated each year when temperatures fall sharply, with the aim of providing shelter and basic support. This year’s use suggests the city still faces wider challenges around long-term housing insecurity.
