Salou has opened its Sabor Salou 2026 food festival with a 20-metre tiramisu on Passeig Jaume I, putting the Costa Daurada town at the centre of the weekend's food programme.

The dessert, made with hazelnuts and ratafia liqueur, was prepared by chef Edu Cuesta with the Salou Association of Hospitality Entrepreneurs (AEH) and local chefs. Hundreds of people watched it being assembled, and 2,000 portions were handed out for a symbolic €1 donation.

The money raised will go to Cruz Roja, Cáritas and Eluzai. The opening event drew large crowds and set the tone for a festival that organisers describe as the largest open-air gastronomic showcase on the Costa Daurada.

This year's edition includes 56 stands, with cooking workshops, wine and beer tastings, and street entertainment. Visitors can also try a mix of Mediterranean and international dishes, including smash burgers, sushi, Argentinian empanadas, paellas, craft beers and speciality coffees.

Salou mayor Pere Granados said Sabor Salou is one of the municipality's main gastronomic and social events. He said it is more than a food fair, describing it as a showcase of the effort, creativity and talent of the town's chefs and restaurateurs.

The festival continues over the weekend, with live music and activities from Salou's leisure venues adding to the atmosphere. For more local coverage, see our news tag.
