The Catalan government will renovate the Centenari-AISS pitch in Barcelona for Sant Andreu's youth football teams, according to Sports Minister Berni Álvarez. He confirmed the plans on Wednesday during a parliamentary control session, responding to a question from the Comuns party.

Álvarez acknowledged that the Centenari-AISS pitch, owned by the Generalitat, is in a "deplorable state". He stated that renovations are necessary after the Sant Andreu men's first team's promotion to Primera RFEF.

Following the promotion, Barcelona City Council committed to installing natural grass at Sant Andreu's home ground, the Narcís Sala, and at CE Europa's pitch. CE Europa also plays in Primera RFEF and is aiming for promotion to Segunda División. These upgrades are to meet league regulations, meaning youth teams will no longer be able to use the Narcís Sala for training.

Renovation Timeline

"This pitch is in a lamentable state, we have summarised the actions we can take and we will do them before the season starts so that all the children of Sant Andreu can play," Álvarez said. He added that department technicians visited the facilities on Tuesday. The renovation aims to provide a suitable training ground for the club's youth players.

The commitment ensures that Sant Andreu's youth football will have a dedicated space, addressing the impact of the first team's success on training facilities. Further details on the renovation schedule are expected soon.
