Pep Manresa, a Junts per Catalunya councillor at Tarragona City Council, has died aged 72 after being admitted to Hospital Universitari Joan XXIII. His death removes a serving member from the municipal council and will be marked by two days of official mourning across Tarragona.
Mayor Rubén Viñuales has decreed official mourning for Saturday 1 August and Sunday 2 August 2026. Flags will fly at half-mast at municipal buildings and spaces, Tarragona City Council said.

Return to the council in 2023
Manresa returned to municipal politics in the 2023 local elections as number three on the Junts per Catalunya list, which secured him a seat as a councillor. Junts per Catalunya is a Catalan political party.
During the current term, he sat on the municipal commissions for Culture, Festivities, Sport, Education and Citizen Relations. His participation in the terrace ordinance discussion also placed him in negotiations on rules affecting hospitality businesses and the use of public space in Tarragona.
Career in politics and property
Before returning to the council, Manresa had been active for years in Convergència Democràtica de Catalunya. He also chaired Ara Tarragona between 2016 and 2018.
Outside politics, he spent much of his career in the property sector. In 1997, he founded Nouàmbit Immobles, working in property management, assets, sales and residential lettings, and also worked in security and building rehabilitation.
