Balaguer, Lleida, is hosting the latest edition of Fira Q, a multisectoral fair that opened on Saturday with 120 exhibitors and a focus on local produce. The event, which runs throughout the weekend, aims to showcase the region's potential.
The opening ceremony saw Xavier Amor, Secretary for Local Governments and Relations with Aran, join Balaguer's mayor, Lorena González, and other local officials. They toured the exhibition spaces, which Amor described as “a complete surprise” that “shows leadership in a fair that gathers the country's potential and sensitivity, from the fair of dreams to local produce.” González thanked the exhibitors and encouraged visitors to attend the fair to see the territory's offerings.
Culinary and Energy Highlights
Among the main attractions this year is the 39th National Samfaina Coca Exhibition, featuring sixteen bakers offering tastings. A children's workshop with the popular Sr. Postu was scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
The Lleida Energy Show also started on Saturday, with talks and activities on energy efficiency and sustainability planned for the entire weekend. A new addition this year is the Vallfogona de Balaguer energy community, which is presenting its project and car-sharing vehicle in the renewable energy section.
Sunday morning will see the 18th Honey Day, including specialised conferences and the 'Queen of Honeys' competition. In the afternoon, the 10th Josep M. Morell Cooking Competition, 'From Our Land to the Plate', will search for the best sandwich in Ponent, with participation from 3Cat communicator and chef Gessamí Caramés.
Family Activities and Entertainment
Fira Q offers a wide programme of family activities. The Menuts Q space has organised family workshops and children's proposals, alongside gastronomic tastings and demonstrations. The catwalk will host dog shows, fashion parades, and accessory displays with Moda BLG 25600.
The restoration and leisure sector includes performances by Lo Pau de Ponts, Oana, and comedian David Sas. The fair is also pet-friendly, with specific areas, exhibitors selling pet products, and an outdoor dog park with organised activities. A free tourist train connects the city centre to the fairgrounds throughout the weekend, helping visitors access the event.
