ERC Senator Jordi Gaseni has urged Adif, Spain's railway infrastructure administrator, to transfer ownership of disused train stations in the Terres de l'Ebre region. The move would allow local municipalities to repurpose these sites for social and community use, according to Gaseni.
Stations such as Campredó in Tortosa, and those along the Via Verda de la Val de Zafán in Horta de Sant Joan, Arnes-Lledó, Benifallet, and Aldover, are currently a financial burden on local councils and regional authorities. These bodies incur costs without Adif agreeing to transfer or repair the properties, officials said.
Local Councils Face Costs
Gaseni highlighted the ongoing expenses faced by local authorities for these unused facilities. The senator's demand aims to alleviate these financial pressures and unlock the potential for community projects in the affected towns.
Local councils and regional bodies have expressed a desire to transform these neglected spaces into assets for residents. The proposed transfer would enable them to develop new facilities or services, benefiting the wider community.
