In Tarragona, Endesa says it will invest about €36.3 million in the electricity distribution network in 2026, a 48.6% increase on the previous year. The company says this is the maximum allowed under current regulations.
The Tarragona spending is part of a wider €264.5 million plan for Catalonia through Endesa’s distribution subsidiary, e-distribución. The company says the aim is to update infrastructure as electricity demand grows, more renewable energy is added, and new energy uses expand.
Endesa says distribution networks are central to the energy transition because they carry electricity to homes, businesses and services, and connect transport networks with points of consumption. More information on the company’s distribution activity is available on Endesa’s distribution pages.
The 2026 plan includes maintenance, reinforcement of existing infrastructure, new connections and digitalisation. Across Catalonia, Endesa says €75.2 million will go to supply quality and continuity, €70.2 million to new electricity supply requests, €77.5 million to strengthen the network, and €41.4 million to digital projects.
The company says the work will cover more than 3,400 kilometres of electrical lines in Catalonia, across low, medium and high voltage networks. It also says the investment should support more than 2,900 indirect jobs through contractor companies. For broader Catalonia coverage, readers can also follow our news page.
In Tarragona, planned projects include increasing network capacity by upgrading existing infrastructure, including work on the 110 kV line between Cambrils and Reus. Endesa also plans new and expanded substations, new high-voltage lines and connections to the transport network.
The company says its Tarragona network currently includes 18,478 kilometres of electrical lines, with just over 60% overhead and nearly 40% underground. It also connects to 50 substations, 8,259 transformation centres and more than 676,000 supply points. Endesa says the growth of self-consumption is also continuing, with 22,320 connected installations in the Tarragona counties by the end of the first quarter of this year.
