In Santa Susanna, the CUP has reported the town council and the Catalan government to the Mossos d'Esquadra over the planned far-right festival, Chaos in the Sun. CUP deputy Dani Cornellà said the complaint concerns alleged inaction and neglect of duties ahead of the event, which is scheduled for 29 and 30 May in the Maresme town.

The party says this will be the fourth consecutive year the festival has been held there. It also says it had already sent several requests to the council and to the relevant departments, warning that the event would breach public entertainment rules and that the council had the power to stop it.

According to the CUP, the warnings were also passed to the public prosecutor's office, on the grounds that the event could involve glorification of fascism and Francoism. The party said the administrations had ignored the issue and allowed the concert to go ahead without the required paperwork, including insurance, emergency plans and capacity controls.

On 15 May, around 100 people protested against the neo-Nazi festival in Santa Susanna, in a demonstration organised by the Alt Maresme Antifascist Platform. The CUP says that protest showed local concern about the event and the lack of action from the authorities.

The Santa Susanna council told ACN that it neither organises, promotes nor supports the festival. It said it regretted not having legal means to stop it. Mayor Joan Campolier, of AiS-Junts, said previous editions had not disrupted local life and that municipal rules had been respected.

The CUP is now calling for an investigation into the council for possible malfeasance, and for checks on the organisers over alleged irregularities. It also wants the event preventively banned. For more Catalonia news, see our news coverage.
