The CUP opened a new office at Plaça de Sant Pere in Girona's Pedret neighbourhood on Thursday evening, creating a fixed base for its local and provincial organisation before the 2027 municipal elections.

For Girona residents and community groups, the party says the premises are intended to provide a meeting point for organisations and members of the public. The CUP also plans to use the office to coordinate municipal candidacies across the Girona counties, retain the mayoralties it currently holds and seek candidates in further municipalities.

A shared base for Girona and the wider organisation

The new premises will have three roles:

  • a Girona-based office for the CUP's national organisation;
  • headquarters for CUP Comarques Gironines, the party's Girona counties organisation; and
  • a working space for CUP Girona.

Laia Pèlach, a CUP Girona member and former city councillor, said the party had spent some time without a permanent office in the city. She said it had previously used Girona's network of civic centres and other spaces, including El Forn.

Marta Guillaumes, spokesperson for the CUP's Girona counties territorial secretariat, said the organisation had spent months preparing projects for towns and cities in the province. She said it aimed at least to maintain the number of candidacies fielded at the previous municipal elections, while expanding into new municipalities.

“It is not only a new premises opening, but a meeting space for everyone who wants to be part of our project,” Guillaumes said.

Non Casadevall, the CUP's secretary general, described the Girona office as part of a national objective to grow with roots across the territories the party refers to as the Països Catalans. The party says the new base will support both the Girona counties and its wider organisational needs.

The office is at Plaça de Sant Pere in Pedret, an area Pèlach described as historically associated with Girona's pro-independence left.
