The Seguici Petit, Reus’s children’s ceremonial procession, travelled through the city centre on Wednesday afternoon as part of the Festes de Misericòrdia, the annual festivities honouring the city’s patron saint. For Reus families and residents, the parade gives children a public role in maintaining the traditional dances, music and symbolic figures that form a central part of the local festival calendar.
The Festa Major call sounded from the bell tower of the Prioral de Sant Pere church to start the procession. It began in Plaça del Mercadal and ended there with a final display by the participating groups.
Traditional figures and children’s dance groups
Musicians from the Aula de Sons de Reus took part alongside children’s versions of the city’s best-known festival figures, including the Diables, Drac, Cucafera, Basilisc, Lleó, Nanos and Mulassa.
- The procession also included the Vitxets and the children’s Moros i Indis, Marcos Vicente, Pastorets, Cercolets, Prims, Valencians and Gitanes dance groups.
- Young members of the Esbart Santa Llúcia’s Ball de Bastonets, the Orfeó Reusenc’s Escola de Bastons and the Xiquets de Reus castellers group, who build human towers, also joined the route.
- The Àliga petita, the children’s eagle figure, completed the line-up.
Route through the old town
From Plaça del Mercadal, the parade continued along Carrer Major and Plaça de Sant Pere, then through Carrer de les Peixateries Velles, Carrer de l’Hospital and Carrer de la Presó.
It then passed Plaça de la Farinera, Carrer de Santa Anna, Raval de Santa Anna, Plaça de Prim and Carrer de Monterols before returning to Plaça del Mercadal for the final performance.
