The Generalitat’s Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition has launched a tender to create a single parent brand for public transport services under its responsibility in Catalonia.

For FGC and Rodalies passengers, the proposal would change how services are presented and identified over time, but would not itself merge the operators running them. The tender states that the different operators will remain in place.

The proposed identity would cover interurban buses, cycling services, Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), Rodalies commuter rail, Ifercat and Cimalsa, as well as Generalitat-owned infrastructure operated by other companies, including Tram and Metro.

A phased move to a common identity

According to the tender details reported by Via Empresa, the parent brand would be organised around four areas: bus transport, personal mobility by bicycle, rail and infrastructure.

The Department’s plan sets out three stages:

  • Coexistence, in which the new parent brand would appear alongside current identities.
  • Hybridisation, in which the parent brand would take visual priority.
  • Unification, in which existing identities would be fully incorporated into one of the four categories.
“A robust, simplified and easily identifiable identity system for all citizens and users.”

That is the stated final objective in the tender specification. It does not give a date for the brand’s introduction or for any of the three stages.

FGC and Rodalies users should continue to check information issued by their current operator while the procurement process and any subsequent rollout proceed.
