Catalonia is set for a change in weather next week, with cooler temperatures and more storms expected across the region after a spell of record heat, according to Betevé.

The shift is linked to a pocket of cold air at high altitude that could move close enough to push the warm air mass southwards. It is not expected to bring a major cold snap or widespread rain, but it should offer a short break from the early summer heat.

Showers have already returned this Friday and are forecast to continue in mountainous areas during the afternoons through the weekend. As the cold air gets nearer, those showers are expected to become more frequent.

Tuesday looks like the key day for the change. Some models suggest showers could affect many inland, mountainous and pre-coastal areas, with a risk of intense storms and hail. Coastal areas, the west and the south of Catalonia may see little or no rain, although the forecast remains uncertain.

The most noticeable change will be the drop in temperature across Catalonia, with Wednesday also expected to feel cooler. Daytime heat should ease, humidity is likely to fall, and nights may become more comfortable along the coast and slightly cooler inland. Barcelona could even see a few nights without tropical temperatures, according to Betevé.

The relief may not last long. Forecast models suggest the cooler spell could be brief, with temperatures likely to rise again in the second half of next week as summer conditions return. For more Catalonia news, see our news coverage.
