Calaf, in Central Catalonia, now has a new care home after Catalan President Salvador Illa officially opened the centre on Saturday, 30 May 2026. The facility will serve 54 residents and is due to start operating in June.
The project was completed after two years of construction, which local officials described as a relatively quick build. The local government, led by ERC mayor Montserrat Mases, had made the care home a priority.
Sant Andreu Salut Foundation of Manresa will manage the home. The inauguration was attended by representatives from the foundation, including Marc Aloy, mayor of Manresa and president of the assistance organisation, and its director, Manel Valls.
The new centre is expected to improve care options for older people in Calaf and the surrounding area by providing services within the community. For more Catalonia-wide local news, see our news coverage.
