Manises Hospital in Horta Sud has carried out its first faecal microbiota transplant, a procedure used to treat severe and recurrent intestinal infections by restoring a patient’s bacterial flora.
The intervention was done with Sagunt Hospital in Camp de Morvedre and with support from the transplant coordination unit of the Ministry of Health. According to the Generalitat, the case marks progress in bringing innovative therapies to complex infections.
A multidisciplinary team at Manises Hospital took part in the procedure, including staff from internal medicine, infectious diseases, digestive medicine, microbiology, clinical analysis, haematology and quality. Sagunt Hospital contributed its microbiology and digestive services.
Dr Beatriz Gómez, manager of Manises Hospital, said that bringing in evidence-based therapies is key to improving healthcare quality and patient outcomes. Dr Ana Peiró, manager of Sagunt Hospital, said the agreement strengthens coordination between public health centres and allows them to share expertise and resources.
