€6.9 million allocated for PUA grants

The Catalan Department of Social Rights and Inclusion has launched a new call for applications for the Prestació d'atenció social a les persones amb discapacitat (PUA), allocating €6.9 million to the initiative. The funding will support people with physical, intellectual or sensory disabilities to cover costs related to personal autonomy, quality of life and social inclusion.

The grants, which were reintroduced after a three-year pause, will be available to individuals who have made eligible purchases between 2024 and 2026. The application window opens on Tuesday 25 August and runs until 2 October.

Support for essential equipment and adaptations

The support covers over 130 products and measures, including wheelchairs, shower stools, hoists, adapted vehicles, communication aids such as hearing aids and electronic magnifiers, and adapted beds. Funding can also be claimed for vehicle adaptations and transport linked to specific services.

Applicants may claim back part of the cost of purchases, up to a maximum of €9,500 per person, based on established valuation criteria. The exact amount reimbursed depends on the type of product or adaptation.

We are bringing back these aids that had not been available for several years, which make it possible for people with disabilities not only to live better, but to access essentials for their lives, said Raúl Moreno, Minister for Social Rights and Inclusion, during a visit to the SÍRIUS Centre for Personal Autonomy in Mataró.

Eligibility and how to apply

  • Applicants must have a recognised disability of 33% or higher
  • Annual income must be below €33,677.63 (3.5 times the Catalonia Income Sufficiency Index for 2026)
  • Applications can be submitted online via the Generalitat's online portal or in person

The choice of Mataró for the announcement highlights the role of the SÍRIUS Centre for Personal Autonomy, located at Espai Mataró Cuida-CareCityLab. The centre, managed by Mataró City Council in collaboration with the Generalitat, provides free information, guidance and advice on assistive products, accessibility and alternative communication systems. There are seven such centres across Catalonia.
