The Catalan government convened its fourth work meeting at Món Sant Benet in Sant Fruitós de Bages, Barcelona, this weekend. The primary focus was to invigorate the executive's actions and advance reforms within the administration and public services, according to government sources on Saturday.
The meeting started shortly before 11am on Saturday with a minute of silence. This was held in memory of the latest victim of femicide in Catalonia, acknowledging a critical social issue.
Salvador Illa, the President of the Generalitat, opened the session. He urged ministers to ensure institutions operate "at full throttle" to accelerate Catalonia's transformation. Illa also emphasised the goal of regaining European leadership and protecting citizens amidst global uncertainty.
All members of the government attended the meeting, except for Health Minister Olga Pané, who is currently on leave. This gathering occurs as the legislature approaches its halfway point, with departments looking ahead to projects for the coming months.
Government Engages Central Catalonia
The government chose to hold this meeting outside Barcelona, specifically in central Catalonia. This decision follows a pattern of previous meetings held in various locations across the region. The aim is to bring political action closer to different parts of Catalonia, fostering a broader connection with the public.
Work sessions continued throughout Saturday afternoon and into the evening. A notable part of the programme included a meeting with philosopher Francesc Torralba, author of 'Anatomia de l'esperança' (Anatomy of Hope). Government members were scheduled to share reflections centred on the concept of hope with Torralba.
