In Catalonia, the new government budget includes funding for renewable energy and nature protection, with money set aside for wind turbines in the Gulf of Roses and for the Nature Agency.

The nature protection line had been a point of dispute in the Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition budget, especially the amount assigned to natural environments and protected areas.

Environmental groups had said these policies faced a 48% cut compared with the 2023 accounts. During the department’s budget presentation, Sílvia Paneque said this issue would be resolved.

The allocation for wind turbines in the Gulf of Roses is part of a wider push to support renewable energy across Catalonia. The extra funding for the Nature Agency is intended to help manage and protect the region’s natural heritage.

The government’s move follows weeks of criticism from environmental organisations over funding for natural spaces. For more Catalonia coverage, see our news page.
