The new fiction series 33 días, created by journalist and writer Carles Porta, will premiere on Atresplayer on 7 June. The production, inspired by a real prison break, recreates the escape of two inmates from Ponent prison in Lleida. Part of the filming for the series took place in the former Tarragona prison in March 2025.

Actors José Manuel Poga and Julián Villagrán lead the cast, playing Prieto and Calatrava, fictional names for the real-life escapees Manuel Brito and Javier Picatoste. Their escape kept the Mossos d'Esquadra, Policía Nacional, and Guardia Civil on high alert for 33 days, according to the Diari de Tarragona.

The series will have six episodes. It combines fictional elements with the real facts of the case to reconstruct one of the most high-profile prison escapes recorded in Catalonia.

Filming in Tarragona

Filming took place in the former Tarragona prison because it was not possible to film in the original Ponent prison in Lleida. This location allowed the production team to realistically reproduce the settings where some of the most critical moments of the escape happened.
