Tortosa, Càritas Diocesana de Tortosa says it supported 8,872 people and 3,804 families in 2025, according to its latest social report. The charity works across the Terres de l'Ebre area and said the figures reflect continued pressure on households in the region.
The report says the diocese covers parts of the Tarragona and Castelló provinces. Its services are aimed at people facing social exclusion and hardship, with support ranging from basic assistance to longer-term help.
Càritas Tortosa also warned of growing social fragmentation. The organisation said this can increase isolation and make it harder for vulnerable people and families to reach essential resources and community support.
Its work includes food support, shelter, employment guidance, and emotional and social support. The charity said demand for these services remained high in 2025, alongside wider economic and social challenges in the area.
Looking ahead, Càritas Tortosa said it will continue its programmes and adapt them to changing local needs. It also said it will keep pressing for policies that address the causes of precariousness and social fragmentation in Terres de l'Ebre. For more local coverage, see our news page.
