Girona’s tourism and hospitality sector says it needs 8,000 more workers, according to the Federation of Hospitality and Tourism of the Girona Regions.

The federation says filling labour vacancies remains a major concern for businesses across the province. The shortage affects hotels, restaurants and other tourist services, and could affect service quality and day-to-day operations during busy periods.

Many businesses in Girona’s tourist areas are finding it difficult to keep full staffing levels. That puts pressure on existing employees and can limit the ability of establishments to expand services or meet higher demand, especially ahead of the summer season.

Some smaller businesses could face reduced opening hours or temporary closures if staffing problems continue, according to industry observers. The federation says the issue is affecting a wide range of roles across the sector.

The Federation of Hospitality and Tourism of the Girona Regions says it is working with local authorities and educational institutions on possible training programmes and incentives to attract more workers. For more Catalonia-wide coverage, see our news page.
