Officials in Camp de Tarragona are examining new solutions to tackle the severe saturation of the free car park at the Camp de Tarragona station. Since the new car park opened in January and parking was banned along the access road, drivers have faced significant difficulties, including poorly parked cars blocking passages and buses struggling to manoeuvre.

Commuters describe the situation as a daily challenge. "It's impossible, some days you leave your car and you're anxious all day because you know it's not quite right, but it's this or pay," explained Cris, a regular user of the station, to reporters. The free car park's popularity has led to overcrowding, forcing drivers to park improperly or risk missing their trains.

Addressing Parking Overload

The previous arrangement allowed parking on the sides of the access road, which helped distribute vehicles. However, the new regulations, implemented alongside the opening of the dedicated free car park, have concentrated all demand into one area, leading to the current issues. The problem is particularly acute during peak travel times, when the car park quickly fills to capacity.

The study of new measures aims to alleviate the pressure on the existing facilities and improve traffic flow around the station. Options under consideration include expanding parking capacity, implementing timed parking restrictions, or introducing a shuttle service from alternative parking areas. The goal is to ensure smoother operations for both private vehicles and public transport.

Authorities are expected to announce specific proposals in the coming weeks following their assessment of the situation. Any changes will aim to balance the need for free parking with the requirement for efficient and safe access to the station for all users.
