Borges Blanques, in the Garrigues area of Catalonia, is at the centre of a dispute at CF Borges Blanques over a proposed affiliation agreement with Atlètic Lleida. The issue became public on 30 May 2026, when posters appeared across the town saying, “Atlètic Lleida is not Borges.”

The possible agreement would link the Segona Catalana club with the Segona RFEF side. Club president Jordi Macià told Segre that the board sees “nothing negative” in the deal, although it is “not closed”. He said members would receive a statement setting out the benefits and drawbacks.

Atlètic Lleida president Xavier Bartolo denied that any affiliation agreement exists. He told Segre that the Borges Blanques board had contacted Atlètic Segre for help in forming its team, not Atlètic Lleida.

The posters, which also spread on WhatsApp, said the Cappont club “does not represent us” and that “Borges belongs to the town”. They urged members to vote against the agreement at the club’s general assembly, scheduled for 8 June. The meeting will also cover season accounts, next season’s budget, Borges B, and updates on the first team.

Macià said the club still needs to assess whether the agreement will be put to a member vote. He also suggested the unrest and posters in local businesses were part of “a campaign started by certain people who are not in favour of Borges”. Bartolo said that “someone wants to muddy the waters”.

Atlètic Lleida has previously sought agreements with smaller clubs in the Lleida area. Last year it reached an affiliation agreement with Alpicat, which Bartolo said would not be extended. That deal was intended to strengthen Atlètic Lleida’s first team with players from Atlètic Segre. Alpicat stayed in Primera Catalana, and coach Iván Lara later left after a disagreement with former Atlètic Lleida president Josep Maria Oromí.
