BBVA has provided nearly €6 million in financing for three disability residences in Prats de Rei, Anoia, supporting the social entity Apinas in expanding its facilities for people with intellectual disabilities. This significant investment combines EU Next Generation funds and sustainable mortgage financing to modernise and increase capacity at the residential complex.

The project, driven by Apinas, involved the reform and expansion of the existing residential complex in Prats de Rei, which comprises three centres. The total investment for the initiative is close to €6 million, with €4 million sourced from Next Generation EU funds and the remaining €2 million from sustainable mortgage financing, according to BBVA.

The expansion includes the recently completed Prats 3 building, which increases the complex's overall capacity to 64 places. This new facility aims to address the current needs of the community it serves. Before this expansion, Prats 1, inaugurated in 1986, accommodated 38 residents, while Prats 2, built in 2005, provided 16 places.

Modernising Care Facilities

BBVA highlighted that the new Prats 3 residence represents "a significant transformation of the care model". The centre now incorporates 'reduced cohabitation units', designed for a maximum of 12 people, each with their own private spaces and shared common areas to encourage community living. Furthermore, the new building features adapted rooms, primarily individual, specialised equipment, and spaces specifically designed to promote personal autonomy and social interaction among residents.

The banking entity also explained that the project has allowed for "improving staff working conditions and optimising services". A partial renovation of the Prats 1 building included new kitchen and laundry facilities. Its architectural design focused on enhancing thermal, acoustic, and light comfort, alongside integrating energy efficiency solutions and renewable energy generation.

Boosting Local Economy and Sustainability

Beyond the direct improvements to the residential complex, BBVA emphasised the project's broader impact on the local economy. During its development, priority was given to contracting local businesses, with 85% of the construction work volume awarded to companies within the Anoia region, thereby contributing to the area's economic development.

This comprehensive upgrade of the Apinas residences in Anoia not only provides enhanced living and care facilities for people with intellectual disabilities but also demonstrates a commitment to sustainable development and local economic support. The integration of modern care models and energy-efficient solutions sets a new standard for disability support services in the region.
