Barcelona’s Trambesòs network will face phased service cuts this summer as work continues on Gran Via and the tram track doubling between Badajoz and Bilbao streets. The disruption will affect lines T4, T5 and T6 from 3 July to 13 September.

According to the Metropolitan Transport Authority, 2.6 million to 2.8 million journeys were made on these three lines during the same period last year. The biggest change will be on the T4 line, which will be suspended between Verdaguer and El Maresme, a stretch of about five kilometres. Lines T5 and T6 will stop running between Ciutadella-Vila Olímpica and Sant Martí de Provençals, covering four kilometres.

During the works, the single-track section on Badajoz and Bilbao streets will be removed and replaced with a double-track platform. To keep public transport running, two special bus services will operate on the same timetable as the tram, one between Verdaguer and El Maresme for the T4, and another between Marina and Besòs for the affected parts of the T5 and T6.

Travellers can also use the L4 metro, several TMB bus lines, and the R1 Rodalies service between Sant Adrià and El Clot. The T4 is due to resume on 14 September between Verdaguer and Sant Adrià, while the T5 and T6 are set to restart that day between Ciutadella-Vila Olímpica and Glòries.

Partial disruption on the T5 and T6 will continue until spring 2027 as the wider Glòries and Gran Via project moves forward. The total cost is €32.54 million, with €23.3 million funded by Barcelona City Council and €9.24 million from the Generalitat through the ATM.
