Social organisations in Òscar, Barcelona, and L'Hospitalet de Llobregat are overwhelmed by the large number of people seeking vulnerability reports, which are necessary for immigration regularisation. This surge in demand is stretching their capacity to breaking point, according to local reports.
People are travelling from various towns, including Igualada, Sant Vicenç dels Horts, and Manresa, to seek assistance, further burdening the services in Barcelona and L'Hospitalet. "We are receiving desperate people looking for solutions from all over. We cannot cope," one social worker told reporters.
Strain on Resources
The current situation contrasts sharply with the response to Ukrainian refugees. During that crisis, everyone was quickly attended to in specially designated centres, such as the one at Fira de Barcelona, officials said. This highlights a disparity in resource allocation and immediate support for different groups seeking assistance.
The increasing need for vulnerability reports reflects broader challenges in immigration processes and social support systems across Catalonia. Organisations are calling for more resources and a more coordinated approach to manage the influx of requests.
