Barcelona is preparing for scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, 15 May, particularly across the Barcelona and Girona regions. These weather conditions are attributed to the arrival of cold air at higher altitudes, according to Betevé.

The forecast indicates locally heavy rainfall, potentially accompanied by lightning and hail. The day started with uncertain, grey, and damp conditions, featuring some light, scattered drizzle. However, between mid-morning and midday, brief clear spells and favourable cold air conditions are expected to lead to more intense showers.

Afternoon Instability and Cooler Temperatures

The afternoon will see changing skies and cooler temperatures. Cloud formations are predicted to increase from mid-afternoon, bringing irregular showers, especially to the Maresme and Vallès Oriental areas. These showers could locally develop into thunderstorms.

Rainfall will not be continuous or widespread; instead, it will be very uneven, typical of situations with cold air at altitude and significant thermal contrast after midday. In Barcelona, some rain cells might approach or arrive between mid-afternoon and evening, but with less intensity and coverage than in the north-eastern regions. Many neighbourhoods could experience only a few drops or no rain at all.

The period of maximum instability is expected between 2pm and 6pm. Temperatures in the city centre will be noticeably cooler than on Thursday, with more contained warmth.
