Barcelona and Girona are bracing for a significant increase in unstable weather this Friday, 15 May, as cold air moves in at higher altitudes. Forecasters predict another round of showers and thunderstorms, primarily affecting areas between the two provinces during the afternoon and evening.

These precipitations could be accompanied by lightning and hail in some locations. The day will be marked by the passage of a cold front, leading to changeable, spring-like conditions. The morning is expected to be grey and unsettled, with scattered light drizzle.

Afternoon Instability Expected

Between late morning and midday, a brief clearing of skies combined with favourable cold air conditions will help form more intense showers. The afternoon will see changeable skies and cooler temperatures. From mid-afternoon, clouds will build, bringing irregular downpours, especially towards Maresme and Vallès Oriental, where they could locally turn into thunderstorms.

Rainfall will not be continuous or widespread; showers are expected to be very uneven, typical of situations with cold air aloft and thermal contrast after midday. In Barcelona, some rain cells might approach or arrive between mid-afternoon and evening, but with less intensity and coverage than in the north-eastern regions. Many neighbourhoods could even miss the rain entirely or experience only a few drops.

The peak of instability is anticipated between 2pm and 6pm. Temperatures during the middle of the day will be noticeably cooler than on Thursday, according to betevé.
