Barcelona will receive €600 million from the new Generalitat budgets, Mayor Jaume Collboni said after a political agreement between the Generalitat government, ERC and Comuns was ratified and begins its path through the Catalan Parliament.

Collboni called the deal “magnificent news” and said it marks institutional normalisation that responds to daily needs. He said the city has faced 10 to 15 years of underinvestment from the Generalitat in housing, public transport and public healthcare, and that the new agreement breaks that cycle. The funding is set to support around ten new Primary Care Centres, a care home for older people in Les Corts, and three new schools. It also includes major projects such as the expansion of Hospital del Mar, work linked to the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC), and the connection of the Diagonal Avenue tram lines.

On housing, Collboni said the budgets continue construction on 11 developments, with 637 flats in total, by Incasòl. He also said €30 million will go towards 1,500 homes to be built by the City Council.

The budget breakdown includes €207 million for policies under the Generalitat’s direct competence, €29.5 million for municipal projects with Generalitat support, and €304 million for new investments. Those investments cover cultural initiatives, the Diagonal tram connection and the Besòs-Maresme Neighbourhood Plan.

Collboni said the agreement reflects long-standing demands raised by the Barcelona City Council in bilateral commissions with the Generalitat, and matches the municipal government’s priorities in social, educational, health and public transport policy. He said the funding helps residents stay in their neighbourhoods with quality public services.
