Badalona has begun the demolition of the last four residential blocks containing aluminous cement in the Sant Roc neighbourhood, according to a statement from the Catalan government on Friday.
The Catalan Land Institute, Incasòl, has already started work on two of the blocks. The demolition is being carried out by Construcciones y Desmontes Ribera Navarra and is expected to continue until September, with a budget of €333,628.
The remaining two blocks are out to tender, with a maximum budget of €377,598. The aim is for that work to begin after the summer.
This latest phase forms part of the wider Sant Roc remodelling project, which began in 1997. The plan has focused on replacing housing blocks, many of them publicly owned, that were originally built to rehouse families affected by the construction of the C-31 motorway or by floods.
Since the neighbourhood renewal began, the works have led to the construction of 879 new homes. The overall investment in the project has reached nearly €100 million.
