Barcelona will host the second edition of Flaix de tardor, BCN from 16 to 29 October, bringing seven international theatre shows to five venues across the city. The festival is backed by the Catalan government, Barcelona City Council and several local venues, and is part of the Temporada Alta initiative.

The programme includes five Spanish premieres and one Catalan premiere. It brings together artists and companies from Germany, Norway, Lithuania, Argentina, Brazil and Italy, with a focus on contemporary performing arts in autumn.

Among the productions at Teatre Lliure is Spiegelneuronen, by German director Stefan Kaegi, founder of Rimini Protokoll. The documentary theatre piece, with the Sasha Waltz & Guests dance company, makes its Spanish debut and uses a large mirror to involve the audience in the performance.

At Mercat de les Flors, the Norwegian company Carte Blanche will present How Romantic, conceived and choreographed by Katerina Andreou. The work, also seen at the Avignon Festival, features fourteen dancers in a physical piece that reflects on power, resistance, exhaustion and human relationships.

Other shows include Šventoji (The Saint) at Teatre La Biblioteca, directed by Oskaras Koršunovas, Petróleo at La Villarroel by the Argentinian company Piel de Lava, and Deserto at Teatre La Biblioteca by the Brazilian company Polifônica. The line-up also includes Navegar por el Neva at Teatre Lliure and Mamma. Piccole tragedie minimali at Teatre Akadèmia.

Tickets will go on sale soon, with further details to be announced by the organisers. For more local culture coverage, see our news tag.
