In Manresa, Junts per Manresa has asked the city government to provide proof that hundreds of tonnes of selectively collected cardboard are being recycled, not sent to landfill.
The opposition group said on 8 June 2026 that the governing coalition of ERC, PSC and Impulsem had not replied to an urgent meeting request made more than ten days earlier. It said the request was meant to address concerns raised by recent reports about the final destination of the city’s cardboard waste.
Junts said it wants transparency, verifiable information and access to the relevant documents. It also asked Councillor Pol Huguet for explanations and for details of the control mechanisms used to check the waste stream. The party said it was “incomprehensible” that the government had not even set a date to meet the main opposition group on an issue that affects public trust in selective collection.
The group said it is not trying to confirm or reject the reports, but to obtain the data needed to verify and clarify them. It wants documentation on the traceability of the waste fraction, technical reports and any other material that can confirm its final treatment.
Junts also criticised what it sees as a lack of response from the tripartite government led by Mayor Marc Aloy. It said the situation shows a gap between repeated talk of transparency, participation and open government, and the way information requests are handled in practice.
The opposition is asking for an immediate reply to its meeting request and for the city government to provide the information needed to clear up doubts about cardboard waste management and maintain public trust in recycling. For more local coverage, see our news page.
