Barcelona is set to honour the centenary of Antoni Gaudí's death throughout 2026 with a wide range of activities across the city. The programme aims to celebrate the architect's scientific dimension, the connections between his works, and to bring his figure and buildings closer to local residents.
Various Gaudí houses have organised special activities, alongside exhibitions and an international congress. The Sagrada Família, Gaudí's unfinished masterpiece, will be a central point for the year's commemorations, according to reports.
Casa Batlló and Museum Contributions
Casa Batlló will dedicate its annual mapping projection to Gaudí. The chosen show, 'Hidden Order' by visual artist Matt Clark of United Visual Artists, explores universal laws of nature. It merges human perception, culture, and technology to reveal the hidden magic of Casa Batlló.
City museums are also participating. The Museu d'Història de Catalunya will present an analysis of Gaudí's work through its main compositional parameters; specific dates for this are yet to be confirmed. The MNAC (National Art Museum of Catalonia), in its Modern Art collection, will host a collection of previously unseen works by the architect in October. These pieces come from the storage facilities of Barcelona City Council.
Exploring the Sagrada Família
Local broadcaster betevé has already aired its own production, 'Objectiu Sagrada Família' (Objective Sagrada Família), which is available on its website and YouTube. This series features eight episodes and a round table discussion, looking at the past, present, and future of Spain's most visited monument. The Sagrada Família attracts more visitors than the Alhambra or the Prado Museum.
The programme explores the Sagrada Família from all angles, using spectacular images and nearly 40 interviews. Experts in architecture, theology, and history, along with sculptors and artisans who have worked on Gaudí's great work, contribute to the series. The centenary year provides an opportunity for both locals and international visitors to engage with the enduring legacy of Antoni Gaudí.
